Assess. Diagnose. Treat.

Speech-Language pathologists are educated to assess the development of speech and language, and to treat disorders of speech, language, swallowing, and hearing. The undergraduate program prepares students for graduate study, which is required to practice speech-language pathology.

Speech-Language Pathology, B.S.

The undergraduate program in Speech-Language Pathology prepares students with a strong foundation in understanding typical processes involved in speech, language, swallowing, hearing, and communication as well as an introduction to the field of communication disorders. Our curriculum provides students with the necessary prerequisite courses for future graduate study. Students who complete our undergraduate program are prepared to apply directly to a master’s program, such as the one offered at Buffalo State.

Speech-Language Pathology, B.S.

Speech-Language Pathology, M.S.Ed.

Upon completion of the master’s degree, students will be positioned to apply for a teaching certificate in New York State as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disorders (TSSLD) and will also be prepared to apply for a state license to practice speech-language pathology.

Our master’s degree program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Academic Accreditation, of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

SLP Program Testimonials

Due to receiving my undergraduate degree from a different university, I was nervous about starting at a new program for graduate school. However, I instantly felt welcomed and like I belonged here at Buffalo State University. I had heard nothing but great things about the Speech-Language Pathology department at Buffalo State during my application process, and now I understand why. The faculty and staff here have been very welcoming and supportive and have made my transition into graduate school much easier. I enjoy how much hands-on experience I have gotten here in just my first semester. I feel as if Buffalo State is shaping me to be the best future speech-language pathologist I can be!

-Carly Hudson, SLP Graduate Student

I've been supervising graduate students for their acute care/medical externships for about 6 years and will admit that when I'm tasked with choosing which school to take students from, my preference is always Buff State. I have found that these student clinicians are more prepared for their placements, demonstrate confidence and an eagerness to learn new skills, and above all else, are professional and personable- skills that are crucial regardless of which area of the field they end up in. The university liaisons are so easy to communicate with and make the supervision process a breeze. I know our profession is in good hands with Buff State alumni out in the field!
